A New Chapter in Bangladesh: 3D Knitting Makes Its Entrance
When people think of knitwear, they might not immediately think of cutting-edge production technology and digital innovation. But that’s precisely what drives our 3D knits. These crafted fabrics are the result of an advanced knitting process, refined to perfection, delivering knitwear with an unmatched fit and impeccable finish. With this in mind, we’ve expanded our portfolio in Bangladesh by integrating this groundbreaking technology into our local operations.
Concordia Textiles 3D Knit Technology
With all the technological advancements in the textile industry, we at Concordia Textiles are stepping up. We’re excited to add the technology of 3D knitting to our portfolio with the opening of our new 3D knit department in Bangladesh.
This innovative technology allows us to elevate the quality of our products. From shoe uppers and seat covers to medical textiles and beyond, 3D knitting opens the door to creating seamless, lightweight, and highly breathable fabrics with a lot of comfort and strength.
By investing in 3D knitting, we’re not only expanding our production capabilities but also showing our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and customer satisfaction. This is an important step forward that brings new possibilities, new designs, and new opportunities for our customers.
What is 3D knit?
A 3D warp knitting machine produces innovative fabrics that truly stand out from the typical flat fabrics we’re used to. By using multiple layers of yarn, this machine creates textiles with added depth and structure.
One of the most exciting aspects of this technique is how it allows different types of yarn to be used in different layers. The middle layer often features monofilament yarns, which provide extra cushioning, while the outer layer uses multifilament yarns to give the fabric a soft and comfortable feel.
Unlike traditional knitting, which creates flat textiles, 3D knitting forms fabrics with a true three-dimensional structure bringing new possibilities for comfort, performance, and design.
How does it work?
Step 1: Design Phase
It all begins in the design studio, where designers plan every detail of the fabric. From selecting the perfect yarn type and thickness to designing the pattern and defining the fabric weight, this phase ensures that the end product meets high standards for both performance and appearance.
Step 2: Preparing the Yarn
Once the design is finalized, the next step is preparing the yarn. Here, the yarn is wound from bobbins onto large beams. This process keeps the yarns organized and ready for the next stage, ensuring smooth, efficient production. With the yarns prepared, it’s time to set up the 3D warp knitting machine. Warp knitting is a technique that lays betweens circular knitting and weaving, combining the fluidity of knitting with the stability of woven structures.
Step 3: Setting Up the Machine
This process begins by mounting the yarn beams onto the machine, where the yarns are guided vertically through a separating bar into their respective guide bars. Our skilled operators then meticulously thread each yarn and input the design and production parameters into the control system. Once everything is in place, the machine begins its work, knitting the yarns into fabric that is neatly rolled up and ready for the next stage of production.
Why 3D Knitting?
3D warp knitting technology opens a new world of possibilities. It produces seamless fabrics that are not only breathable, lightweight, and strong, but also offer superior comfort and design flexibility. Plus, the process is efficient and sustainable, aligning with our commitment to creating durable, high-quality fabrics that stand the test of time.
3D Knitting Applications
At Concordia Textiles, our 3D knitting technology enables us to develop advanced textile solutions for a wide range of applications, including shoe wear linnings, seat covers, backpacks and medical textiles. This innovative technique allows us to create seamless, multi-layered fabrics with varying properties in a single process—optimizing both performance and production efficiency.
In footwear, 3D knitting allows for the creation of breathable, lightweight, and form-fitting uppers that improve wearer comfort while reducing material waste and assembly steps. These properties are particularly well-suited for performance and lifestyle shoes where both function and appearance matter.
For seat covers, especially in the automotive and mobility sectors, 3D knitted fabrics offer design flexibility and enhanced durability. They can be engineered to fit complex shapes while maintaining a clean aesthetic and delivering the comfort and stretch that modern interiors demand.
In medical textiles, 3D knitting in the form off compression garments and orthopedic braces to patient support materials, the technology enables consistent pressure distribution, targeted support, and breathable comfort, all critical in medical environments.
Backpacks, Backpacks need to strike the right balance between comfort, durability, and performance and that’s exactly where 3D knitting technology delivers. Thanks to our seamless knitting process, we can engineer multi-functional backpack panels in a single piece, eliminating the need for multiple cuts, stitches, and reinforcements. The result? Fewer weak points, less material waste, and a more ergonomic design that naturally follows the contours of the body.
